August 9, 2002 Frank Pierson Re-elected Academy PresidentBeverly Hills, CA - Academy Award® winning writer Frank R. Pierson, has been re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization's Board of Governors. The election was held at the regularly-scheduled August meeting of the board Thursday night (8/8). Pierson, a governor representing the writers branch of the Academy for the past five years, was first elected to the Academy presidency last year. Robert Rehme, an executives branch governor and past president of the Academy, was elected first vice president. Executives Branch Governor Roger Mayer and Actors Branch Governor Kathy Bates were elected vice presidents, Public Relations Branch Governor Cheryl Boone Isaacs was named treasurer and Sound Branch Governor Don Rogers was elected secretary. Rehme has previously served five terms as president, four as vice president, one as first vice president and two as treasurer. Mayer has served a single term as first vice president. Rogers has previously served two terms as vice president, two terms as treasurer and eight terms as secretary. Bates has served two terms as vice president and a term as secretary. Isaacs has not previously served as an officer of the Academy. Board members serve three-year terms, while Academy officers serve one-year
terms, with a maximum of four consecutive terms in any one office. ###
