July 29, 2002 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "How Green was my Valley"
Beverly Hills, CA - "How Green Was My Valley" will be featured on Monday, August 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater as the next film in the Academy's 75th Anniversary screening series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners." Home movies of actors John Huston and Olivia de Havilland will precede the screening of 1941's Oscar®-winning film. The evening's program also will include Hearst newsreel footage from the 14th Academy Awards® featuring a speech given at the ceremony by Wendell L. Willkie, the Republican candidate for President in 1940. "Churchill's Island," the first recipient of a Documentary Oscar, will be part of the program. "Lend a Paw," which won the Oscar for Cartoon Short Subject of 1941, will also be shown as will the original trailer for the next film in the screening series, "Mrs. Miniver." The Best Song of 1941, "The Last Time I Saw Paris" from the film "Lady Be Good," will provide curtain music for the evening. Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Academy during regular business hours or by mail. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
