July 24, 2002 August 1 is Oscar® Deadline to Submit Sci-Tech EntriesBeverly Hills, CA - Thursday, August 1, is the deadline to submit scientific and technical achievements to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration for the 75th Academy Awards®, Scientific and Technical Awards Committee Chair Richard Edlund announced today. In late May, entry information was sent to over 850 companies and individuals, including past winners, within the sci-tech film community both in the United States and abroad. According to Awards Administration Director Rich Miller, any device, method, formula, discovery or invention of special and outstanding value may be considered. "The committee will be looking for exceptional achievements - technologies that have proven their value with repeated use in films and have provided significant advances in the production of motion pictures," said Miller. Technical advances submitted to the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee will be evaluated by subcommittees comprised of distinguished engineers, scientists and craftspersons before being recommended to the Academy's Board of Governors for award consideration.
