July 22, 2002 Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Rebecca"
Beverly Hills, CA -Hearst Movietone footage of the 13th Academy Awards®, including a portion of the six-minute radio address given by President Franklin Roosevelt to the ceremony's 1,500 guests, will precede the screening of Alfred Hitchcock's "Rebecca" on Monday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The 13th film to win the Oscar® for Best Picture, "Rebecca" is the next film to be featured in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 75th Anniversary screening series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners." The evening will begin with "Cavalcade of the Academy Awards," a program produced by the Academy recapping the winners from the first 12 Academy Award® ceremonies. Clips of Vivien Leigh, Loretta Young, Anne Baxter, Margaret Sullavan and Joan Fontaine screen testing for the role of Mrs. De Winter in "Rebecca" will be featured along with "Milky Way," the Oscar-winning Cartoon Short Subject of 1940. Curtain music will be provided by the Oscar-winning Best Song of 1940, "When You Wish Upon A Star," from the film "Pinocchio." Tickets may be purchased, pending availability, at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid I.D.
