Academy's Diamond Anniversary Screening Series to Feature "Gone with the Wind"

"Gone with the Wind"

"Gone with the Wind" starred Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. Although both Gable and Leigh received Academy Award® nominations for their portrayals, only Leigh took home the Oscar® in the Lead Actress category.

Beverly Hills, CA - "Gone with the Wind" blows back onto the big screen for one night only, Monday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Tickets for this screening, the next in the Academy's 75th Anniversary screening series, "Facets of the Diamond: 75 Years of Best Picture Winners," are sold out. There will be a stand-by line the night of the event and those people will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis if ticket holders have not arrived by 15 minutes prior to show time.

The featured print of "Gone with the Wind," the 12th film to win the Oscar® for Best Picture, presents the film in its original 1:33 aspect ratio with the original overture, intermission and exit music included.

The Best Song of 1939, "Over the Rainbow," as performed by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz," will serve as the evening's curtain music. A 1939 Hearst newsreel featuring "Dixie Hails 'Gone with the Wind'," which contains footage of the Atlanta premiere of the film, also will be shown.

The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. For more information, call 310-247-3000, ext. 111.
