Academy/UCLA Documentary Series Resumes
Beverly Hills, CA - Part Two of the 20th Annual Contemporary Documentary
Series will begin on January 8, 2002, at 7:30 p.m., at the James Bridges
Theater at UCLA. The series is presented by the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film
and Television Archive. All screenings in the series are free and
open to the public.
Following is the complete schedule for Part Two:
- January 8
"Big Mama" (directed and produced by Tracy Seretean) Academy
Award Winner.
"Legacy" (directed and produced by Tod Lending) Academy
Award Nominee.
- January 22
"The Laughing Club of India" (directed by Mira Nair; produced
by Adam Bartos).
"A Fight to the Finish: Stories of Polio" (directed by
Ken Mandel; produced by Tony Herring, MD, Mandel).
- January 29
"The Concert" (directed by Robert Dornhelm; produced by
Bram Roos).
"Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport"
(directed by Mark Jonathan Harris; produced by Deborah Oppenheimer)
Academy Award Winner.
- February 12
"Picture Day" (directed by Steven Bognar; produced by
Bognar, Mary Sheridan).
"Miss Blindsight/The Wingwall Auditions" (directed and
produced by Wendy Snyder MacNeil; co-directed by Alice Wingwall).
"Half Past Autumn: The Life and Works of Gordon Parks"
(directed by Craig Rice; produced by Denzel Washington, St. Clair
Bourne).
- February 19
"The First Freedom" (directed by Charles Guggenheim; produced
by Grace Guggenheim).
"The Internationale" (directed and produced by Peter Miller).
"Of Civil Wrongs and Rights" (directed by Eric Paul Fournier;
produced by Dorka Keehn, Shirley Nakao).
- February 26
"Look Back, Don't Look Back" (directed and produced by
Randy Bell, Justin Rice).
"The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack" (directed by Aiyana Elliott;
produced by Elliott, Paul Mezey, Dan Partland).
- March 12
"On Tiptoe: Gentle Steps to Freedom" (directed by Eric
Simonson; produced by Simonson, Leelai Demoz) Academy Award Nominee.
"Long Night's Journey into Day" (directed by Frances Reid,
Deborah Hoffman; produced by Reid) Academy Award Nominee.
All screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the James
Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus. Filmmakers will be present whenever
possible to discuss their films and take questions from the audience.
The James Bridges Theater is located in Westwood on the northeast
corner of the UCLA campus, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard
and Hilgard Avenue. Parking is available for $6 in Lot 3, adjacent
