November 6, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Leslie Unger - 310-247-3000 Best Picture "Patton" to Screen at AcademyBeverly Hills, CA - "Patton," which earned ten Academy Award nominations and won in seven categories including Best Picture, will be screened at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Presented as part of the "Academy Standards" series, the screening will be the premiere of a newly-restored 70mm print with six-track stereo sound. Karl Malden, who portrays General Omar Bradley in the film, will make a special appearance. The 1970 examination of the eccentric and brilliant World War II general, which was produced by Frank McCarthy, stars George C. Scott, who won - but refused - the Oscar statuette for his performance in the title role. The film also features performances by Malden, Michael Bates, Edward Binns, Stephen Young, John Doucette, James Edwards, Frank Latimore, Richard Muench and Morgan Paull. Director Franklin J. Schaffner also won an Academy Award, as did the film's screenwriters Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North. Academy Awards were also won for Art Direction (Urie McCleary, Gil Parrondo; set decoration: Antonio Mateos, Pierre-Louis Thevenet), Film Editing (Hugh S. Fowler) and Sound (Douglas Williams, Don Bassman). In addition, the film earned nominations for Cinematography (Fred Koenekamp), Music - Original Score (Jerry Goldsmith) and Special Visual Effects (Alex Weldon). The restoration work was done by the Academy Film Archive and 20th Century Fox. Tickets for "Patton" are $5 for the general public, $3 for Academy members.
