25 Scientific Achievements to be Considered for 74th Academy Honors

Beverly Hills, CA -Twenty-five scientific or technical achievements have been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards Committee for 74th Academy Awards® consideration, Committee Chair Richard Edlund announced today.

"We announce these achievements so that claims of prior invention or of similar technology can be reviewed to determine whether they should also be included in our consideration," Edlund said. Deadline for such notification is 5 p.m., Friday, September 28.

The methods or devices selected by the committee for further consideration, and the individuals or companies submitting them, are:

Demonstration of selected achievements will be conducted on Tuesday, October 23, in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Awards Administration Director Richard Miller said the committee will meet on December 5 to vote award recommendations to the Academy's Board of Governors, which will make the final decisions. The Scientific and Technical Awards will be presented at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Saturday, March 2, 2002.
