Academy/UCLA Documentary Series Continues with Second Half

Beverly Hills, CA - Part Two of the 19th Annual Contemporary Documentary Series, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive, will begin on January 9 at UCLA's James Bridges Theater at 7:30 p.m. Included in Part Two are the films which won Academy Awards® in the Documentary Short and Feature categories, as well as two others that were nominated for Oscars®. All screenings in the series are free and open to the public.

Following is the complete schedule for Part Two:

January 9
"Speaking in Strings" (directed by Paola DiFlorio, produced by DiFlorio, Lilibet Foster). Academy Award nominee.
"Amargosa" (directed by Todd Robinson; produced by Sidney Sherman, Kenneth A. Carlson).

January 23
"My American Father" (directed and produced by Shawn Hainsworth).
"Pop & Me" (directed by Chris Roe, produced by C. Roe, Richard Roe).

February 6
"Uncommon Friends of the Twentieth Century" (directed by John Biffar; produced by Paul Bush).
"The Source" (directed and produced by Chuck Workman).

February 13
"King Gimp" (directed by William A. Whiteford; produced by Whiteford, Susan Hannah Hadary). Academy Award winner.
"Little Secret" (directed by Bobby Houston; produced by Robert Hudson).
"On the Ropes" (directed and produced by Nanette Burstein, Brett Morgen). Academy Award nominee.

February 20
"Monte Hellman: American Auteur" (directed by George Hickenlooper; produced by Carrie Rudolf).
"American Movie" (directed by Chris Smith; produced by Sarah Price).

March 6
"Crossing the Line" (directed and produced by Robert Richter, Avram Ludwig).
"One Day in September" (directed by Kevin MacDonald; produced by Arthur Cohn). Academy Award winner.

March 13
"Five Wives, Three Secretaries and Me" (directed by Tessa Blake; produced by Jason Lyon).
"Wisconsin Death Trip" (directed by James Marsh; produced by Maureen A. Ryan, Marsh).

All screenings will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus. Filmmakers will be present whenever possible to discuss their films and take questions from the audience.

The James Bridges Theater is located in Westwood on the northeast corner of the UCLA campus, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hilgard Avenue. Parking is available for $6 in Lot 3, adjacent to the theater. For more information, call (310) 206-FILM.
