Oscar® Winner Mark Berger to Houston as Academy Visiting ArtistBeverly Hills, CA - Oscar-winning sound rerecording mixer Mark Berger will travel to Houston, Texas, next week to screen one of his films and to discuss sound design at the Museum of Fine Arts. His visit is sponsored by the Visiting Artists Program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. A member of the sound branch of the Academy, Berger, who won an Oscar each of the four times he was nominated, has over 100 films to his credit. His Academy Awards® were received in the sound category for "Apocalypse Now," "The Right Stuff," "Amadeus" and "The English Patient." Berger will screen "Amadeus" on Friday, November 17, and will discuss the sound design of the film. The discussion and screening will take center stage at the reopening of the Museum of Fine Arts' 350-seat Brown Auditorium, designed by Mies Van der Rohe. Berger also will speak to students from local universities and high schools the following day. The Visiting Artists Program was started by the Academy in 1970 to provide an important link between the academic study of film and filmmaking and the men and women who make movies. Through the program, members of the Academy's various branches share their expertise in classrooms, festivals, conferences and other film-related events. ###
