73rd Academy Awards® Rules Distributed to AMPAS Voters

Beverly Hills, CA - The 73rd Annual Academy Awards rules were mailed today to the approximately 5,600 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The rules for 2000 set deadlines for submitting entries in certain categories:

o The deadline for submitting entry forms for the documentary categories is October 2, 2000. The deadline for receipt of the film print and proof of qualifying exhibition is November 1. (October 31 is the last date for a documentary film to screen in order to qualify.)

o The deadline for receiving entry forms and supporting documents in the Foreign Language Film category is November 1. Prints must be received at the Academy by November 15. (To qualify, films must have screened by October 31 in the country of submission.)

o In the short films categories, entry form deadline is November 1, and the deadline for receiving the film print and proof of qualifying exhibition or award is November 30, which is also the date by which films must have screened to qualify.

o In the music categories, submissions must be made no later than 60 days after the qualifying Los Angeles release opening, or December 1, whichever comes first.

In other categories, the deadline for submission of Official Screen Credits forms to the Academy is 60 days after the qualifying Los Angeles release opening, or December 1, whichever comes first. This form must be filed in order for a feature film to be considered for the 73rd Annual Academy Awards.

Rules are reviewed annually by branch and category committees. The Awards Rules Committee then reviews all proposed changes before
presenting its recommendations to the Academy's Board of Governors.

Academy Award nominations will be announced at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at the Academy. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2000 will be presented on March 25, 2001, at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium. Sunday at the Oscars will be televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. (PST), with a half-hour arrivals segment preceding the 5:30 p.m. presentation ceremony.
