August 16, 2000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: John Pavlik - (310) 247-3000 Robert Rehme Elected to Fourth Term as Academy PresidentBeverly Hills, CA - Robert Rehme, a governor representing the executives branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was re-elected president of the Academy Tuesday night (8/15) by the organization's Board of Governors. It is Rehme's fourth consecutive term as president. He also served in the office for one term in 1992-93. Alan Bergman, a music branch governor, was re-elected first vice president, and public relations branch governor Sid Ganis was re-elected a vice president. Writers branch governor Frank Pierson also was elected a vice president, his first service as an officer of the Academy. Sound branch governor Donald C. Rogers was elected treasurer. He has served the two most recent terms as secretary, a post he also held for two terms in 1993-1995. Actors branch governor Kathy Bates was elected secretary, her second consecutive term as an Academy officer. "This is a very busy period for the Academy," said Rehme, "with a lot of new and expanding programs beginning, as well as an exciting new theater for the presentation of the Oscars rapidly going up. I'm happy the board has selected me once again to guide the Academy's many projects and I pledge my full enthusiasm and effort for another year." Rehme previously served one term as treasurer of the Academy and four as vice president. Academy officers serve one-year terms, with a maximum of four consecutive terms in any one office. ###
