August 1 is Oscar® Deadline for Entry of Sci/Tech Achievements

Beverly Hills, CA - Tuesday, August 1, is the deadline for submitting scientific and technical achievements for consideration for the 73rd Annual Academy Awards®, Scientific and Technical Awards Committee Chair Richard Edlund reminded today.

A call for entries was mailed in June to more than 800 past winners, companies, members of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee and various subcommittees as well as others in the film-related scientific community.

Awards Administration Director Richard Miller explained that any device, method, formula, discovery or invention of special and outstanding value may be considered "if it has proven its exceptional merit through successful use in the motion picture industry."

Technical advances brought to the attention of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee will be evaluated by subcommittees of film industry engineers, scientists and craftspersons, and then by the main committee itself, before being recommended to the Academy's Board of Governors for award consideration.

Information may be obtained from Miller's office: (310) 247-3000, or by FAX: (310) 859-9619.
