July 20, 2000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: John Pavlik - (310) 247-3000 Academy Elects 13 Governors; Five Have Never Served BeforeBeverly Hills, CA - Five new members have been elected by their branches to the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, six incumbent members have been returned and two governors who had previously served on the Academy's board have been brought back for additional service. All were elected for three-year terms that will begin August 1. The five newcomers to the board are Ed Begley Jr., actors branch; Jeannine Oppewall, art directors; John Toll, cinematographers; Michael Mann, directors; and Jon Bloom, short films and feature animation. Incumbent governors returning to the board are Roger Mayer, executives; Alan Bergman, music; Saul Zaentz, producers; Douglas Greenfield, sound; Richard Edlund, visual effects and Frank Pierson, writers. Returning to the board after a one-year absence is Dede Allen, film editors, and after a three-year absence, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, public relations. Three governors represent each of the Academy's 13 branches and are elected for staggered terms, so that each branch elects or re-elects one governor each year. Governors whose positions were not up for re-election and who continue on the board are: actors branch, Kathy Bates and Gregory Peck; art directors, Marvin March and Albert Wolsky; cinematographers, John Bailey and Conrad L. Hall; directors, John Frankenheimer and Robert E. Wise; executives, Robert Rehme and Lew Wasserman; film editors, Carol Littleton and Tom Rolf; music, Charles Bernstein and Arthur Hamilton; producers, Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and Richard D. Zanuck; public relations, Sid Ganis and Marvin Levy; short films and feature animation, June Foray and William C. Littlejohn; sound, Don Hall and Donald C. Rogers; writers, Fay Kanin and Hal Kanter; and visual effects, Bill Taylor and Jonathan Erland. ###
