George Cukor
George Cukor

The photograph series of the George Cukor papers spans the years 1930–1981 and encompasses approximately 25 linear feet. The series consists of 20,074 motion picture production photographs. The photographs are arranged alphabetically by film title. Fifty-eight films are represented, including one uncompleted project and two unproduced projects. Within each title, the photographs are grouped into scene, off-camera, publicity portrait, advertising, research, location reference, and set reference photographs.

There is strong representation on nearly every film directed by Cukor. Of the films completely directed by Cukor, only the files on Rockabye (1932) and It Should Happen to You (1954) are scanty. Files on two early films co-directed by Cukor, Grumpy (1930) and The Virtuous Sin (1930), are equally small. The file on One Hour With You (1932)—Cukor left the production after only two weeks’ work—contains only three photographs. There is strong representation on such highlights of Cukor's career as A Bill of Divorcement (1932), Dinner at Eight (1933), Little Women (1933), Camille (1937), Holiday (1938), The Women (1939), The Philadelphia Story (1940), Gaslight (1944), Adam's Rib (1950), Born Yesterday (1950), and My Fair Lady (1964). There is also ample coverage on Cukor's two television movies, Love Among the Ruins (1975) and The Corn is Green (1979).

Gift of George Cukor, 1979.
