  • "The Blind Side": Sandra Bullock scored a touchdown at the Oscars when she won Best Actress for this inspiring true story about a mom who forms a bond with a young homeless man bound for athletic stardom.

  • "Dumbo": Few movie moms have brought mothers and sons closer than Mrs. Jumbo and her baby; the "Baby Mine" scene in which she rocks him to sleep might be the most touching in the entire Disney canon.

  • "Erin Brockovich": Julia Roberts earned a Best Actress Oscar for playing a mother never seen onscreen before, a plucky single mom who turns into a legal force of nature – and it's a true story, too.

  • "The Joy Luck Club": You'll get plenty of moms for the price of one in this heartwarming, tear-jerking, multi-generational look at mothers and daughters in China and modern America, based on the bestselling book by Amy Tan.

  • "Imitation of Life": Both Juanita Moore and her onscreen daughter Susan Kohner were nominated for Best Supporting Actress for this still-powerful look at racial and class divisions in America, told from a female perspective. Lana Turner and Sandra Dee also appear as mother and daughter, but it's Kohner's big finale that had viewers reaching for their Kleenex.

  • "Little Women": This American classic has been filmed several times, including this acclaimed 1994 version with Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon and Kirsten Dunst. You'll appreciate both your mom and your sisters after watching this one.

  • "Mrs. Miniver": The title character of this Best Picture winner played by Greer Garson (who took home Best Actress) may be the ultimate wartime mom, who fearlessly guides her family through the beginning of World War II in England. A great patriotic family film that dad will enjoy, too.

  • "The Sound of Music": Julie Andrews became the ultimate mother figure for generations of moviegoers as Maria, the "problem" nun who becomes a governess and ultimately new mother for a family of musically-inclined children.

  • "Terms of Endearment": Few moms and daughters have had more ups and downs than Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger in this powerhouse blend of brilliant comedy and wrenching drama, which nabbed five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actress.

  • "Throw Momma from the Train": Okay, maybe it isn't your typical Oscar-style movie, but Anne Ramsey got a Supporting Actress nom - and it does feature a nine-time Oscar host! Plus, even though you love your Mom, you still probably have some moments when this title will seem very appealing.
