Intermingled with first-person accounts from Boston locals whose families were terrorized by Bulger – the real-life inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s Frank Costello in the Academy Award-winning Best Picture The Departed – the film offers an unflinching look at the criminal underbelly of a major American city and the complex network of vested interests and conspiracies that sustain it.
