The Last Campaign

Directed and produced by Wayne Ewing
The brutal re-election campaign of veteran West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Warren McGraw was notable for the smear tactics that were used against him – attacks indirectly funded by a coal company executive.  The victory of McGraw’s opponent made it possible for the coal company to appeal a $60 million judgment against it to the man it helped elect.  The controversy increased with anti-McGraw ads possibly backed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in a “secret war” against judges.  Filmmaker Ewing tries to unravel the numerous covert and shadowy twists in what was dubbed the “nastiest” judicial race of 2004.  35mm.  108 mins.
