The Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers returns to the Academy's Grand Lobby Gallery with a show of more than 60 new images, most taken on film sets during the last five years by 25 of their members. The Society's previous exhibition, "Between Takes," was on display at the Academy five years ago.
The photographers in this exhibition were all invited to join the Society based upon their experience and talent, and most have covered numerous films over lengthy careers. This exhibition allows the exhibiting photographers, generally hired by film studios to provide stills for publicity purposes, to showcase another side of their work and display photographs taken behind the scenes that don't normally find their way into a press kit.
The gallery visitor will experience candid moments with actors and directors on set and off, see production design and visual effects departments at work preparing sets and staging action sequences, and get a glimpse of how the magic of the movies is achieved during long days and nights of shooting. And in the process, the artistry of these photographers becomes apparent.
Exhibiting photographers are: Claudette Barius, Ron Batzdorff, Phil Bray, Andrew Cooper, Francois Duhamel, Anthony Friedkin, Nicola Goode, Melinda Sue Gordon, Brian Hamill, Suzanne Hanover, Kerry Hayes, Douglas Kirkland, Rolf Konow, Gemma La Mana, Bob Marshak, Frank Masi, Merrick Morton, Melissa Moseley, Andrew D. Schwartz, Peter Sorel, David Strick, Suzanne Tenner, Stephen Vaughan,
Merie Weismiller Wallace
and Bob Willoughby.
