Cinematographers are accustomed to viewing the world through the lens of a motion picture camera, but many are also accomplished still photographers. This exhibition showcases the fine art photography of 79 of the top cinematographers working in film today.
ASC President Richard Crudo says, “Our art form is different than still photography in many ways, but both disciplines share a vital purpose. As cinematographers, our creative process allows us to produce an indelible record of who we are and how we see the world. Though the tools we use — light, composition and movement — have remained consistent, we always strive to apply them in ways that are both unique and revealing.”

The still images captured by these talented cinematographers are indeed unique and revealing, embodying Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment.” Whether in color or black and white, digital or film, large format or small print, each of the 79 photographs on display provides a unique window into the personal aesthetic of these ‘masters of light.’
Among the artists in the exhibition, ten Academy Award nominees and seven winners are represented, including Richard Edlund, Conrad Hall, Janusz Kaminski, Vittorio Storaro, John Toll, Haskell Wexler and Vilmos Zsigmond.
