This early model Technicolor camera is to its modern counterpart what the iron horse is to a diesel-powered streamliner. Pudgy, square, and semi-portable, it was the forerunner of today’s precision built camera.

In a time when the industry is faced with a wholesale changeover to digital technology, we need to understand how the tools we use today developed so the art form continues to be enhanced by these new advances.

In exploring the most fundamental tool used by filmmakers, the Academy’s Science and Technology Council will dissect the motion picture camera and explore the evolution of the art through the viewfinder.

Academy Governor Richard Edlund, ASC, and Steven Poster, ASC, will co-host “The Camera: In Depth” and discuss where it all started and where it may be going.

Please join us for an intimate evening at the Linwood Dunn Theatre where we’ll display more than a dozen motion picture cameras, exchange anecdotes and delve into the world of the device that made it all possible.
