This four-week seminar will offer a detailed look at the
production design process from the perspective of motion picture
production designers themselves. Each session will feature
film clips and open discussion between audience and guests.
During this program members of the Academy’s Art Directors
branch will lead discussions on a variety of topics: |

Mind)
April 21st Previsualization:
Storyboard and Sketch Artists
Carl Aldana (Pleasantville, Outbreak) and Jack
Johnson (The Perfect Storm, Independence Day)
April 28th Streets
and Sets
Bo Welch (Men in Black, A Little Princess) leads a
panel discussion with set decorator Cheryl Carasik (Primary
Colors, Hulk), location scout Lori Balton (Something’s
Gotta Give, Ali), graphic designer Martin Charles (XXX,
Catch Me If You Can), scenic artist Bruce Smith (Erin
Brockovich, Fight Club) on the teamwork required to produce
seamless transitions between locations and stages.
