Home Movie Weekend
Hollywood Home Movies III : Treasures from the Academy Film Archive Collection
The Academy Film Archive celebrated Home Movie Day with an all-new evening screening of specially selected home movie footage from Hollywood's Golden Age.
The 16mm home movie craze extended to Hollywood film professionals, including stars and directors who captured not only their families and friends, but behind-the-scenes activities on their sets as well. The Academy Film Archive houses a wide variety of such films and will present a selection of excerpts, including footage of Marilyn Monroe, Carole Lombard, Cyd Charisse, Joan Blondell, Margaret O'Brien, Bette Davis, Errol Flynn, Irene Dunne, Harold Lloyd, Jerry Lewis and many more.
In addition to these rare glimpses of celebrities at work and play, the evening featured footage of Muscle Beach in the 1950s, a 1938 Shriners Convention in Los Angeles, a birthday party for William Randolph Hearst at Marion Davies beach house in Santa Monica and newly discovered behind-the-scenes footage of "Gone with the Wind." Take this rare opportunity to enjoy unique and rarely screened footage and celebrate the contribution that amateur photography makes to our cultural and historic fabric, while enjoying playful and relaxed glimpses of the stars.
