College Oscar® Watch Party Contest: Official Rules

  1. DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEST: The College Oscar® Viewing Party Contest  (the “Contest”) is a contest open to all undergraduate college and university students in the fifty (50) United States and District of Columbia which offer Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees. Applications will be available online for submission at and must be filled out in their entirety and submitted by no later than February 19, 2010. Teams of one (1) to four (4) students (all students on a team must attend the same school) will compete by submitting a written description of their party, and videos and/or photos of the party, by no later than March 15, 2010. There is no limit to the number of teams from any one school that may enter. Students may only register once. The College Professors or Administrators are allowed to guide students during the project, but no outside professional assistance is permitted. Students will control all elements of the party. Failure to comport with these Rules will result in disqualification.
  2. HOW TO ENTER:  Fully completed entry forms must be submitted to or faxed to (310) 247-2600 by no later than February 19, 2010Entrants will receive notification by email that their registration has been received. Registered Entrants must submit judging materials by email to no later than March 15, 2010. Submissions must include a maximum of five hundred (500) word description of the party in the email text (not in an attachment) and a hot link of up to (10) photos that are posted on their page. Additionally, submissions may include, at the Entrants’ option, a link to one video posted on their page that is no more than five minutes (5:00). Submissions not meeting these time requirements will be disqualified.

    By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (“Academy”) and the Judges, which shall be final in all respects on all aspects pertaining to this Contest. All entries must be original, and by entering you hereby assert that nothing in your entry infringes on any copyrights or trademarks, or violates any person’s rights of privacy or publicity. You must have permission from all individuals that appear in the Submission (if any) to use their name and likeness in the Submission and to grant the rights set forth herein.  Submissions shall not include offensive, obscene or illegal content. Any non-conforming entries, as determined in the Academy’s sole discretion, will be disqualified.  The Academy assumes no responsibility for any failure to receive your submission, or if your submission cannot be viewed as intended. The Academy is not responsible for any errors in Contest related materials, or lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete or illegible entries. In the event that there are no entries that comply with these Rules, as determined in the Academy’s sole discretion, the Academy may not award the prize.
  3. ELIGIBILITY: This Contest is open to residents of the 50 United States, including the District of Columbia, who are undergraduate students. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Void where prohibited by law. Winners may be required to execute an affidavit swearing to compliance with these eligibility requirements. Current or former employees of the Academy, its affiliates, agencies and assigns, and their immediate family members (spouse and parents, children and siblings, and their spouses) as well as individuals living in the same household of each are not eligible. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The entries must be the students’ original work product and shall not be publicly disseminated in any manner prior to the final judging the Contest.
  4. JUDGING: Submissions will be judged by a panel consisting of Academy staff members (“Judges”).  Judges’ selections are final. Judging for the Watch Party will be based on the following:
    • Enthusiasm (e.g. number of attendees, how event was publicized, etc.) - 40%
    • Creativity (e.g. themes, decorations, food, etc.)  - 30%
    • Guest Involvement (e.g. games, activities, etc.)  -30%
  5. PRIZES: One winning Entry will be selected. Each winning Entrant will receive an invitation to for two (2) to sit in the red carpet viewing area at the ACADEMY AWARDS in 2011. The Grand Prize has no Approximate Retail Value (ARV). Two runner-up Entries will receive honorable mention acknowledgement on the Academy Facebook page.  Each runner-up Entrant will receive an Oscar prize pack including one (1) hat, one (1) T-shirt, and one (1) poster. Prizes are subject to availability and may be exchanged for items of equal value. The Oscar prize pack has an ARV of $50.00.
  6. PRIZE RESTRICTIONS:  Prize does not include travel or accommodations and winners will be responsible for all such related expenses.  Prize does not include entry to the Kodak Theatre or to the ACADEMY AWARDS ceremony. Winners must comply with all Academy security procedures, including being subject to a background check and search.  Winners will also be required to sign a release form.  Prize is not transferable.  The Academy makes no guarantee that the ACADEMY AWARDS or the red carpet will not be cancelled or postponed and the Academy shall have no responsibility related thereto.  Winners will be contacted by telephone, regular mail or e-mail. Potential winners forfeit the prize if not claimed within three (3) days of first attempted notification, whether notification is by e-mail, regular mail or telephone, or, if after reasonable attempts are made, notification is unsuccessful. All expenses not specifically included, including but not limited to any taxes or expenses as set forth, are the sole responsibility of Winner.
  7. RIGHTS: Entrant grants Academy and its agents the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such entry in any way, in any and all media, without limitations and without further consideration to entrants. By submitting any material, you represent and warrant that you are the exclusive owner of the submitted material; that you have the full authority to make this representation and warranty and to submit the submitted material; and Academy’s use of material containing features or elements similar to or identical to those contained in the submitted material shall not obligate Academy to negotiate with you nor entitle you to any compensation if Academy determines it has an independent legal right to use the other material which is not derived from you. You further acknowledge that you are submitting the submitted material to Academy voluntarily and not in confidence, and that no confidential relationship is intended or created between you and Academy in any way. No submissions will be acknowledged or returned. Submitted material must be your original work, must not have been previously published, and must not infringe the rights of any third party.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: Potential winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and a publicity release within 14 days of first attempted notification. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, potential winners’ entry may be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected. All entrants agree to permit the Academy to publicize their entry on its web site and in any other media, and use their entries for Academy marketing/advertising materials in all media and in perpetuity and for any and all purposes. Furthermore, upon submission, entrant waives any and all right to his/her right to privacy or publicity in connection with the entry. By entering, entrants agree to the use of the winner’s name and likeness for purposes of advertising and promotion without additional compensation. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Academy, its affiliates, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in this Contest or acceptance or use of any prize.
  10. DISPUTES. This Contest is governed by the laws of the State of California. As a condition of participating in this Contest, participants agree that any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or in connection with this Contest shall be resolved exclusively before a court located in Los Angeles County having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participants be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, including attorneys’ fees, other than participant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. costs associated with entering).
  11. PUBLICATION OF WINNERS: After the Contest has concluded, the winners and runners up will be published on the Academy’s page.
