No matter what stage in his career, Gregory Peck was a popular invite to a variety of dinners, charity events, and birthday parties. The Gregory Peck papers in Special Collections at the Margaret Herrick Library contain several boxes of invitations sent to him spanning from 1959 to 1993. Composer Burt Bacharach and his then-wife, songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, decided to go big with their invitation for Elizabeth Taylor’s 55th birthday party on February 28, 1987 at their Bel Air estate. To emphasize her love for diamonds, they attached a miniature rhinestone necklace and ring to a picture of a youthful Taylor in “Courage of Lassie” for the cover of their party invitation. However, Peck declined the invitation because he had already committed to a speaking engagement as Master of Ceremonies at the first American Society of Cinematographers awards dinner.
