New Member Process
Sponsoring a candidate for membership in the Academy is a serious commitment. Please make sure you are confident the candidate has truly "demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of theatrical motion pictures" before you agree to be one of his or her sponsors.
It is important to be familiar with the admission criteria of the branch (see right). It is suggested you send a copy of these requirements to the potential candidate so that he or she will clearly understand the criteria for membership.
Please note two very important rules:
- No member may sponsor more than one candidate for membership per year.
- Candidates for branch membership must be sponsored by members of the branch in question (Members-at-Large or Associate candidates may be sponsored by any two members of the Academy).
New Members Proposal Process
A candidate for membership must be sponsored by two members of the branch for which the person qualifies. One sponsor must request the proposal materials from the Academy's membership office. Please refer to the appropriate branch/category requirements (see right) prior to submission.
After you have completed the proposal card with two signatures, as well as contact information for the candidate, send the completed card with the letters of recommendation, when applicable, to the Academy's membership office. After the Academy has received all appropriate documents, an email will be sent to the candidate requesting relevant information on his/her credits and/or work experience.
Membership reviews take place ONCE a year, in the spring. Our current DEADLINE for ALL proposals is Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Each candidate must receive the favorable endorsement of the appropriate Branch Executive Committee before his or her name is submitted to the Board of Governors for final approval.
