The Scientific and Technical Special Awards include:

JOHN A. BONNER MEDAL OF COMMENDATION (Medallion) – This award shall be given to an individual in appreciation for outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high standards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

AWARD OF COMMENDATION (Special Plaque) – This award shall be given in recognition of special technical achievements in the motion picture industry.

The selection of these awards is overseen by the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee and brought before the Board of Governors for consideration.  A vote of two-thirds of the Governors present is necessary to endorse each proposal.

Presentation of these awards is made at a special event honoring scientific and technical achievements.

No proxies shall be permitted in balloting for any of these Special Awards.  No Special Awards shall be voted posthumously.  No sitting member of the Board of Governors shall be eligible to receive any of these Special Awards.  No individual shall be eligible to receive any particular Special Award more than once.
