Governors Ball Overview

Best Director Ang Lee (center) with producer James Schamus (right) and Schamus' wife Nancy Kricorian at the 2006 Governors Ball.

Immediately following the telecast of the 78th Academy Awards®, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted the Governors Ball at the Hollywood & Highland Center®.

Oscar winners, nominees, telecast participants and Academy guests, joined Ball Chair Cheryl Boone Isaacs and Academy President Sid Ganis to celebrate the film achievements of 2005.

Grammy® nominated singer Patti Austin led the evening’s entertainment accompanied with the Gregg Field Orchestra and Grammy-nominated saxophonist Tom Scott.

Best Actress Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon at the 2006 Governors Ball.

The Ball, produced by Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions, showcased innovative use of light as the prominent décor element. Guests entered a sleek palette and slowly travel through the various colors of the rainbow using color faders and dimmers. A dynamic ceiling treatment using a reflective surface will adorn overhead while guests enjoy the romance that light brings to the event.

For the 12th consecutive year, Wolfgang Puck and his team developed a multi-course, sit-down dinner for the Academy's 1,600 guests. The menu featured Ball favorites, including smoked salmon pizzas with caviar and chocolate Oscars®.
