Governors Ball Décor

Governors Ball

The 12'x30' photographic blowup of the first Academy Awards banquet at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel will be the centerpiece of the anniversary décor at the Governors Ball.

This year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences marks the 75th Anniversary of the Academy Awards.

This year's Governors Ball will pay homage to 75 years of the Academy's history. The theme will reflect 75 years of nostalgia, sophistication and celebrations. The Governors Ball décor has been inspired by the first Awards Dinner, which took place at the Blossom Room at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, on May 16, 1929. A neutral palette with black, white, silver and sepia tones will further enhance the splendor of this Diamond Anniversary.

  • Ceiling - Inspired by the Blossom Room ceiling at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, a drop ceiling will be created using a duplicate pattern of the diamond-patterned ceiling.

  • Walls - Oversized black and white photographs from the first dinner and images from each subsequent decade will be backed by fabrics of burnt-out vintage fabrics from floor to ceiling.

  • Layout - The layout consists of all rectangular tables. The dance floor is located in the center of the room with a circular revolving stage.

  • Tablecloth - The tablecloths are antique white diamond-patterned silk runner overlays with black velvet borders and beaded trim to represent the period. Base cloths are black Dupioni silk kick-pleat tablecloths.

  • Carpet - The entire ballroom will be covered in white carpeting.

  • Centerpieces - Three styles of floral arrangements of white orchids and calla lilies will adorn the tables. Jeweled antique frames on each table with historical memorabilia to include 75 years of Academy photographs, the first ticket, the first menu and many others.

  • Cuisine - Guests will enjoy the fine cuisine of Wolfgang Puck.

  • Entertainment - The entertainment will include the Gregg Fields Orchestra, a 30-piece string orchestra, and feature Patti Austin performing music from past Academy Award winning FIlms.

  • Waiter's Uniforms - All of the waiters will be in white tux tails, white gloves and 1920s groomed hair.

Wolfgang Puck and pastry chef Sherry Yard prepared marquis of chocolate creme brulee with 75- bean Tahitian vanilla ice cream.

For the ninth consecutive year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has chosen master chef Wolfgang Puck to create the cuisine at this year's post-Oscar®-show Governors Ball.

The Governors Ball, where Oscar nominees, winners, presenters and performers celebrate, is the official party of the 75th Anniversary Academy Awards. Puck's company, Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events, will prepare and serve his culinary creations.

"The Academy has a longstanding relationship with Wolfgang and we know his masterful creations will help to make the Governors Ball a spectacular anniversary celebration," said Governors Ball Chair Alan Bergman.

Puck and his talented team of chefs will create the multi-course, sit-down meal for the Academy's 1,650 guests.

"In preparation for this year's Governors Ball, my staff and I have reviewed decades of menus from throughout the Academy Awards' 75-year history," said Puck. "This year's menu will reflect that rich history, making it an unforgettable event."

In addition to Puck's personal involvement, culinary artists from Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events will be responsible for all cooking, presentation and service of the food. Puck's Oscar Night® team will include top chefs from many of his restaurants, who will work in the state-of-the-art kitchen in the Governors Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland® complex.
